Christmas! Bah humbug! Who needs to celebrate Christmas as the reprobated pagan heathens and Catholics do. Afterall, Christmas should should not be about celebrating the Incarnation of the world’s Savior but should not be about ridiculing and condemning Catholics and other non-Calvinists and supporting Republican foreign policy, war, torture and capitalist materialist consummerism. Saint Spurgeon warns us of the evils of celebrating Christmas in a religious way:
We have no superstitious regard for times and seasons. Certainly we do not believe in the present ecclesiastical arrangement called Christmas: first, because we do not believe in the mass at all, but abhor it, whether it be said or sung in Latin or in English; and, secondly, because we find no Scriptural warrant whatever for observing any day as the birthday of the Savior; and, consequently, its observance is a superstition, because not of divine authority. (Charles Spurgeon, Sermon on Dec. 24, 1871).
When it can be proved that the observance of Christmas, Whitsuntide, and other Popish festivals was ever instituted by a divine statute, we also will attend to them, but not till then. It is as much our duty to reject the traditions of men, as to observe the ordinances of the Lord. We ask concerning every rite and rubric, “Is this a law of the God of Jacob?” and if it be not clearly so, it is of no authority with us, who walk in Christian liberty. You believe Jesus did teach us to love our enemies,to show kindness, to be “peacemakers” and to turn the other cheek,etc. Jesus looked into the heart and had no interest in the outside…so our “religion” of Christianity may not please him at all. MacArthur wrote much on the Lordship issue and I do believe that if indeed Jesus is not just saviour but Lord we should follow His teachings. I don’t care who is a “Christian” I only want to see more people who are Christ like.

Well, following Christ is our life, working for justice,peace and equality, caring for Gods creation and loving those so often judged and avoided by so called Christians. Being a disciple is hard but it is what our calling is. Jesus is the way,truth and light.

John MacArthur is totally right: if you preach another gospel you are accursed (anathema). I can’t stand those mainline or liberal “Christians” who are promoting “peace” and “justice” when they are actually promoting heresy and immorality. Definitely. Yes, even Jesus said that He did not come to bring peace, but the sword. You must be very suspicious of preachers who puts peace above TRUTH. Satan will use anything to devour souls, even peace and love.
explain, then, why he orders Peter to sheath his sword when Peter wishes to take up arms for Jesus. You should equally be suspicious of preachers who put WAR…and a fight they themselves won’t participate in…over TRUTH. I agree with you re: not putting peace above truth–just shine that light onto your own right-wing heart, TOO.
Peter (unwittingly) was trying to prevent Jesus from being arrested thereby interfering with Jesus’ mission on the cross. Jesus was going to go without a fight to do His father’s will. The passage is not about promoting world peace.
